Last half term in Year 5!!
We have been working hard this week after a fun half term holiday in the sun. So far, we have been writing persuasive letters, learning about imperial measures, sorting materials based on their properties and starting to think about the World Cup as we have lots of keen footballers in our class. We have also been very active - we managed to get outside on Tuesday afternoon to enjoy a game of Rounders in the sunshine whilst taking turns on Mr Deakin's static bike to help clock the miles up for our current Tour De Yorkshire fundraising event and only 17 sleeps until residential!!
Year 5 Trip to Eden Camp
On Thursday 10th May, Year 5 visited Eden Camp as part of our topic about World War II. We had an exciting day, experiencing many of the sights, sounds and smells of wartime. Our day included sitting in real air raid shelters; finding out what it would have been like in a German U-boat; experiencing the horror of The Blitz; learning how much food was in the weekly ration in wartime; learning about the real Great Escape; finding out what the real prisoners of Eden Camp did with their time; and taking part in a wartime singalong. At the end of our tour round the museum, we spent a short time in the chapel, reflecting on what we had seen, and remembering those who fought or were involved in the war in other ways.
Happy New Year!!
We have had a busy first week back in Year 5 learning about fractions and rainforest mammals and birds ... just to name a couple of things!! Some children have taken on new classroom jobs and Isobel H, Ellie R and Harry C are our current Handwriting Heroes!!

Designing and making American Style Cookies
After doing some market research to find out what type of biscuits/ cookies people liked, and what flavours and textures our classmates preferred, we then designed our own cookies. We could add a range of ingredients to a basic cookie recipe, and choose our own shape and style. Here are some photos of our work.
Welcome to Year 5!!
