Below are a number of documents that specifically relate to the current circumstance surrounding school closure, remote learning and a number of other important documentation that you may wish to read. COVID 19 Catch-Up Premium:

An additional document that is kept in school, is information regarding the ‘Catch-up premium’ that is provided for schools to ensure pupils receive the support they need to get back on track with their learning (More information about this can be found on the Government Website, linked here). Each class has produced a personalised action plan that covers the areas that this premium will target. The effectiveness of this expenditure will be periodically reviewed and our approach to teaching and learning will continue to be flexible to meet the needs of all children at this challenging time. This document cannot be shared online as it contains information about specific learners but if you would like more information about how we are utilising our ‘Catch-up premium’ then you can get in touch with us via the ‘Contact us’ section of our website.

Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is additional funding allocated to schools for pupils who are eligible for free school meals, or have been at any point in the last six years. There is also funding for children from service families and those who are looked after or have been adopted.
 
This funding is to close the gap between achievement of these children and that of other children which research has shown exists nationally.
 
At Escrick Primary School we endeavour to meet the needs of all our children, including those in receipt of Pupil Premium.
 
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Inclusion

SEND intent

At Escrick primary school we believe that every pupil has a right to receive a high-quality ambitious education regardless of need or disability. All children with Special Educational Needs must have their needs recognised and assessed, through a whole-school approach, with appropriate and timely intervention put in place through an assess, plan, do, review cycle.

We value each child and encourage them to achieve the best possible outcomes enabling them to be confident and successful as they continue their lifelong learning. We recognise the importance of good mental health for all our children and utilise strategies and support resources to develop this. Having close partnership with parents and external agencies helps children to learn and develop. We believe that it is vital that our pupils are equipped with the tools needed to become independent learners who will flourish both in and out of the classroom.

Through our high-quality planning, teaching and provision we:

  • Pride ourselves on early identification and intervention for SEND to ensure that progress and opportunities are maximized.
  • Ensure that all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which is differentiated to enable children to understand the relevance and purpose of learning.
  • Provide an accessible learning environment which is tailored to the individual needs of all pupils.
  • Develop children’s independence and life skills.
  • Regularly monitor the attendance and progress of children with SEND, using a child-centered approach.
  • Provide good quality and relevant training for all staff members supporting children with SEND.
  • Work collaboratively with parents and carers.
  • Work closely with external agencies and other professionals to hone and develop our provision for children with SEND.
 
The Four Main Areas of SEND 

If your child has been identified as SEND, it will be determined which of the four areas, will be their main area of need. We promote the ethos of Quality First Teaching within school, to adapt and meet learning needs. We will then follow the process of Assess-plan-do-review alongside parents/carers, to determine the next steps for your child. 

  • Communication & Interaction 
  • Cognition & Learning  
  • Social, Emotional & Mental Health 
  • Sensory and/or Physical 

Children are assessed regularly to ensure that they are making the expected progress. Some children may need extra help and support, the class teacher is usually the first person to notice that the child needs this extra help. If this is the case then they will ask for a meeting with the SENDCo to discuss strategies that may support the child. If these strategies are not working and the child is becoming significantly behind their peers in any area then a discussion with parents/carers about putting the child on the SEN register and the next steps.

How will my child be supported at Escrick C. of E. Primary School?

  • What support does North Yorkshire offer for my child and my family?
    • All North Yorkshire maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). They are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, whatever their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. The Local Authority publishes its Local Offer which provides information for children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) and their parents or carers in a single place.
    • North Yorkshire County Council have published their local offer for children and families from 0-25. This outlines what is available for children and young people with SEND in our Local Authority.
