22.3.22 - Introducing our Water Cycle experts! .... Year 4 have worked really hard in Science this week to learn all about the Water Cycle. We drew scientific diagrams to show our knowledge, then we made our own models to see evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection in action! πŸ’§ 🌎 ❄️ 🌨

25.3.22 - In Music, we’ve been learning how to sing Lean On Me and we’ve used our musical knowledge to compose our own sections of the song using the chromebooks. They sounded fantastic! Remember to have a go using your login at home too πŸ˜„ 🎼 🎀

24.3.22 - We’ve been loving playing a range of fractions games to consolidate our recent learning in maths πŸ™Œ

23.3.22 - Year 4 working hard to order and identify the features of explanation texts in English πŸ‘

22.3.22 - Investigating how different types of chocolate melt at different rates. We carefully timed how long it took for the chocolate to change states from a solid into a liquid, just like the river in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! 🍫

17.3.22 - After receiving our mysterious letters about the woodlands, we went down to take a closer look! βœ¨πŸ§šπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸŒˆ

17.3.22 - Jigsaw β€˜Healthy Me’ 🧩 Role play to help us to learn about the dangers of smoking and the impacts of peer pressure.

16.3.22 - As part of British Science Week, we learned about where in the world different foods are grown and produced. We recorded the food miles of different burger ingredients in a table and carefully drew bar graphs to make comparisons. Did you know, foods like avocados are grown in Mexico and have to travel over 8000km to get to our plates?

8.3.22 - Year 4 have been using their scientific observation skills to explain our β€˜dancing raisins’ investigation! We successfully identified the solid, liquid and gas and we had a fantastic discussion afterwards with lots of questions about different states of matter. Well done everyone πŸ‘

4.3.22 - World Book Day! πŸ“š This week we have been thinking about audience and purpose in English and have written short stories inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to share with the children in Year 1! We all had a brilliant time sharing our love of reading πŸ’š

2.3.22 - This week have been learning about measuring and comparing area in maths and we have used equal squares to make our own shapes.

1.3.22 - For our new Science topic β€˜Changing Statesβ€˜ we acted as particles of solids, liquids and gases on the playground ❄️ πŸ’§ πŸ’¨

Our English book for this half-term is The Promise by Nicola Davies. Below is a copy of the book, as well as an incredible short-film version of the story. Enjoy!

17.2.22 - Maya Temples! After lots of hard work identifying triangles, quadrilaterals, lines and angles, we have constructed our Maya temples πŸ›• It took lots of patience and resilience but we are very proud of how they have turned out!

16.2.22 - In English we have been learning about stories from other cultures and we have all written our own Maya Myth. Year 4 have worked really hard on keeping up their writing stamina and presentation for our class book too ✏️ πŸ™Œ πŸ“ƒ

14.2.22 - Jigsaw 🧩 We have completed our β€˜dreams and goals’ unit by having a competition to create the funniest potato character! This required lots of teamwork and collaboration πŸ™Œ

10.2.22 - In Computing, we’ve been exploring how to write codes and commands to create repeating shapes. Take a look at our fantastic creations!

9.2.22 - This afternoon we have used our new maths knowledge to identify and label different angles and shapes. Keep your eyes peeled to see what these colourful patterns will turn into soon!

8.2.22 - In Science, we have been considering the question β€˜How does a change in the environment affect the things that live there?’. Using our knowledge of our school woodland area, we have discussed how potential changes to the environment could affect the animals and their habitats. Take a look at the drawings of our ideas below...

3.2.22 - Art / English βš‘οΈπŸ“š This morning we were lucky enough to join a zoom call with Jonny Duddle, the most recent illustrator of the Harry Potter books. It was fascinating to learn about Jonny's journey to becoming a famous illustrator and we are all really proud of our finished Hagrid drawings! See if you can spot your Hagrid below...

2.2.22 - This afternoon we have learned about how the Maya were responsible for bringing chocolate to Earth. We also made our own version of Maya hot chocolate - almost everybody loved it! 🍫

1.2.22 - This afternoon we have been exploring our woodland environment to find and identify different minibeasts and living things. We have learned how to use pooters to safely collect (and release!) creatures so we can study and classify them. Super Science work from Year 4! πŸŒ³πŸžπŸŒπŸ•·

31.1.22 - Fantastic gymnastics in PE! πŸ€ΈπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

24.1.22 - Maya hot-seating πŸ’₯ Check out our Maya job experts who were questioned by our fantastic audience on different aspects of their jobs as weavers, farmers and architects!

At the end of last term, Year 4 completed their computing unit on podcasts by planning and recording their own podcast episodes, all about kindness. We listened to different examples of real podcasts and identified the key features (a catchy jingle, guest speakers and interesting facts) before creating our own. We're really proud of the final recordings... have a listen below!

10.11.21 - Using the chromebooks to research Nikola Tesla. We then used this extra information, combined with what we have learned from reading the book, to create information booklets all about his life ⚑️

10.11.21 - In Maths we have been continuing our work on measurement and have been working out the perimeter of different shapes πŸ“βž•βœοΈ

9.11.21 - In Science we have been working in groups to problem-solve and create a working circuit to light a bulb! πŸ’‘ We also learned about different components of circuits and what their functions are.

5.11.21 - Computing πŸ’» This afternoon we have sent true and false messages around the classroom to demonstrate how easily information can be passed on and how difficult it can be to keep track of what we share online. I was super impressed to see so many children with a sensible attitude towards online safety πŸ‘

4.11.21 - In Active Maths, we have been combining our RE learning about Hinduism and our learning on length and perimeter to create some beautiful Rangoli patterns to celebrate Diwali!

3.11.21 - In Art we have been studying M.C.Escher and his work on optical illusions, then we tried to recreate our own tessellations. Keep your eyes peeled for more optical illusions in Year 4 soon πŸ‘€

3.11.21 - In English this week we have started our new book β€˜Electrical Wizard’ which is all about Nikola Tesla. We’ve been working on selecting the most important parts of the text and using our summarising skills. πŸ‘

2.11.21 - We have made a brilliant start to our new Science topic: Electricity! ⚑️ This afternoon, we have learned about and sorted mains and battery powered appliances.

2.11.21 - We’ve made a fantastic start to our new length and measurement unit in maths. This morning we have been converting between measuring in centimetres and millimetres πŸ“

22.10.21 - Here they are... the finished rainforests! We have worked hard to follow our original plans and some of us have even labelled the different layers of the rainforest. Super work Year 4 πŸ‘

21.10.21 - In RE we discussed more about Christianity and matched up sentences to explain Christian beliefs.

21.10.21 - Lots of fun in Forest School with Mrs Peters this afternoon! Year 4 have completed a range of different activities in the woodland and identified lots of different leaves πŸŒΏπŸŒ³πŸ‚πŸπŸŒ±

18.10.21 - Mamma Mia! This week we finished our Mamma Mia music topic. We practised singing the song as a class, then we introduced some different instruments to accompany our singing. Check out the videos below! 🎼🎹🎀

15.10.21 - We’ve finished our unit of learning on The Lorax with some persuasive letters from the Lorax to the Once-ler. I am SO impressed with the fantastic effort and focus everyone has shown when writing these letters. Please come and take a look at the full letters in our class book in Year 4! πŸ“š

15.10.21 - Year 4’s Brain Break Squat Challenge! πŸ‹οΈ Try the challenge at home and see if you can beat your score for next week! πŸ’ͺ🏻🧠

14.10.21 - Forest School! 🌳🌿🌲 Working as a team to create woodland versions of some traditional games. Can you guess which games we played?

13.10.21 - More Rainforest-inspired Art! This week we have studied Henri Rousseau and we have used his artwork as inspiration for our own Rainforest pieces. We have carefully mixed paints to create different shades of green for different leaves and plants. Can you spot any hidden animals?

12.10.21 - Exploring how effective different materials are at absorbing sound. We made ear defenders in groups and tested them outside. Our results showed that bubble wrap was the most effective! We then wrote up our scientific investigation with the help of Reggie the Referee, to make sure that our tests were fair.

11.10.21 - More Jigsaw fun this afternoon! We managed to improve our time in our connect me activity by working together as a class team, then we looked at children’s rights and decided how we can all help to respect our rights.
