Identifying and classifying invertebrates activity! We were lucky enough to have a visit from the Rivers Trust and do some hands on classifying and identifying scientific work! This work has helped us appreciate the diverse range of species that exist in our local rivers.

The ‘Mudbath’

The girls were due to play in a cup match on Wednesday 5th December. Unfortunately after arriving in Brayton, we found out the game couldn’t be played. So...the girls had some fun back at school (sorry parents - Mr Deakin is washing everything!) They do say mud is good for the skin 😁

Some year 6’s attended the Quad Kids festival

Egyptian Art! Our topic this term is Ancient Egypt and we have been busy creating different works of Ancient Egyptian art! We used Papyrus paper to create hieroglyphs, made our very own Egyptian death masks and created Egyptian sunset pictures.

The Battle of the Beaks! Our science topic this term is Evolution, Inheritance and Adaptation. In this lesson, we used different size tweezers in a competition to pick up various size seeds. This demonstrated how Darwin developed his theory of evolution and adaptation on the Galapagos islands and how birds beaks have evolved over many years to fit the seed that grows in their habitats.

Year 6 'New days/new choices' display. During PSHE lessons we have discussed how we can all aim to make more good decisions in our daily lives!

Year 6 Autumn class newsletter

Welcome back to school! Year 6 is officially up and running!

7.9.18

We hope you have had an enjoyable break and are back into the school swing of things! The children have settled into life in Year 6 brilliantly and we have all enjoyed a really positive first week in school. In maths, we have been working with numbers upto 10,000,000. In English, we have started a great new book and reviewed some grammar and in science we have completed an egg drop challenge in teams!

The egg challenge! Children worked in teams to create a contraption that would leave an egg undamaged from a 3 metre drop. They had to think about gravity, velocity and air resistance and settle on a design as a team. After a few test flights their final designs survived and it was a cracking lesson!
